Installation process
SumBuddy is a browser plugin with a simple installation process. Below are the detailed steps:
- Open the browser plug-in store
- If you are using Chrome, open the "Chrome Online App Store"; if you are using Firefox, go to the "Firefox Add-ons" page.
- Type "SumBuddy" in the search box to find the official plugin (developed by the SumBuddy team).
- Download and install
- Click the "Add to Chrome" or "Add to Firefox" button and the browser will automatically download and install the plugin.
- Once the installation is complete, the SumBuddy icon will appear in the toolbar in the upper right corner of your browser.
- Configuring the API Key
- Click on the SumBuddy icon and a window will pop up prompting you to enter your API key.
- You need to have an API key for an AI model in advance (e.g., a key for models such as OpenAI, Gemini, etc.). If you don't have one, you can go to the official website of the relevant AI service and register to get it.
- Paste the key into the input box and click "Save". After saving, SumBuddy will work normally.
- Check if the installation was successful
- Open any web page, click on the SumBuddy icon and see if the sidebar loads. If you can see the interface, the installation was successful.
How to use SumBuddy
SumBuddy is very intuitive to use and is mainly done through the browser sidebar. Here's how to use it:
1. Dialog with web content
- Open a web page, such as a news article or technical blog.
- Click on the SumBuddy icon in your browser's toolbar and the sidebar will slide out from the right side.
- Ask a question in the input box, such as "What is this page about?" or "Summarize this article". SumBuddy will answer based on the content of the page.
- If you need more than one round of dialog, you can continue to ask questions such as "Explain the second paragraph in more detail". It will memorize the context and answer progressively deeper.
2. Use of built-in assistants
- SumBuddy offers a number of preset assistants, such as "HackerNews Comment Interpreter" and "Bilingual Content Analysis Expert".
- In the sidebar, click on the "Assistants" option and select the assistant you want to use.
- For example, select "HackerNews Comment Interpretation", then open a HackerNews page and enter "Analyze the controversial points of this comment". 3. Sharing dialogues

4. Customizing Prompt
- If the built-in assistant doesn't meet your needs, you can set up your own Prompt.
- Click Settings > Customize Assistant in the sidebar.
- Enter the Prompt you want, for example, "Help me translate the content of a web page into Chinese and summarize it". Save it and the assistant will work as you want.
- The customization feature is flexible and suitable for users with specific needs such as programmers, researchers, etc.
Example of operation process
Suppose you want to analyze an English technical article:
- Open the article page, click on the SumBuddy icon and the sidebar pops up.
- Type "Summarize this article in Chinese".
- SumBuddy will read the content of the web page and return a Chinese summary after a few seconds.
- If you don't think it's detailed enough, ask, "What does the second paragraph say?" . It will continue to answer.
- When you are done, click "Share" to save the generated image locally.
caveat
- SumBuddy does not provide a built-in AI model, so a valid API key must be entered.
- When the network connection is unstable, it may affect the response speed, so it is recommended to check the network.
- If the dialog doesn't respond, try refreshing the page or re-saving the API key.
